Sometimes, you find great talent management insights and forward-looking HR thinking in unexpected places.
That’s what happened to me back in late October when I spent a day at the 2nd annual HR Reinvention “Experiment” in Omaha. I attended the event (TLNT was the media sponsor) on the promise that I might be able to tap into some good information there — and I certainly did. But I also found an amazing engaged and vibrant local HR community as well.
Part of what was so engaging about this HR event was that it was largely centered around a series of presentations under the banner of Ignite HR. According to Jason Lauritsen and Joe Gerstandt, the two guys behind Talent Anarchy who organized the Omaha event, Ignite HR is a presentation format giving presenters five (5) minutes, 20 slides and exactly 15 seconds per slide. Ignite HR included six presentations that were each in some way related to the theme of “putting the human back in human resources.”
Is this style over substance?
So, are these Ignite HR presentations about style over substance, format over content?
Not really, because the tight and constricted format actually keeps the presentations lively and moving. If you have gone to any other conferences, you know that the “will it ever end?”-style presentation can drive you batty, so I appreciated the fact that Ignite HR seemed to attack that problem from the outset.
But, you can make your own call whether Ignite HR works or not. We’ll be featuring five of the presentations from Omaha here on TLNT this week. Please dig in, take a look, and decide for yourself.

As Joe Gerstandt put it, “The Allen Groupe has a great story and David and Kelly did a nice job of talking about making the employment experience powerful and unique.”
