It wasn’t easy being a leader in 2020. And it won’t get any easier in 2021. Still, if you’re expecting to read the same platitudes you’ve read 56,832 other times about leadership being important “now more than ever” “in these uncertain times,” don’t hold your breath.
Leadership has always been important. It always will be. So please, can we finally kill the clichés, run them over with a truck, and bury then once and for all? (I know we won’t, but let me have this dream anyway!)
That said, it’s understandable right now why there’s a craving for leaders who behave ethically and value truth. We’ve seen what happens when we get the opposite. Still, when bad leaders fail to be good examples for others, it’s up to the rest of us to fill that void of decency by holding them accountable. Not now more than ever, but always.
